St. Albans does it again!

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Keen CRU volunteer and fundraiser, Jim Tryon organised another splendid evening of song when the Cowbridge Welsh Male Voice Choir made its third visit to St. Albans within a period of 4 years on Saturday 26th September 2009. A whopping total of £3033.20 was raised for CRU. Thank you very very much to those who organised and helped and especially to the choir themselves.

Nevi in 1997

Nevi in 1997

Nevi came to Maria’s Care as a little boy. He is now a very bright young man  at Makarere University in Kampala, studying Economics. This year, topics for study include the Regulation and Governance of Microfinance institutions, Quantitative methods in Economics, Intermediate Micro Economics, Agricultural Economics and also ICT.
He has been asked by his church to lead a cell group on campus.
Nevi says, “It’s really challenging to lead older people but I had to accept since it is a call from God. I need your prayers that God equips me with the wisdom, courage and strength to lead.”
Despite his success in getting to university, life is still challenging. He shared:
“Unfortunately,  just this holiday, I lost my beloved 10 year old nephew about a fortnight ago. He went with him a huge part of the happiness my sister had always had. She’s left with just one 4 year old daughter…”

This is what Nevi wrote to Rhona,
Since you sacrificed to leave your family, cross oceans only to come and share with us. That’s great love. I really appreciate and send my appreciation to everyone who was in the team. Yes, I understand so well how much you made sure we were ok and you know my stay at Maria’s Care was the most important bit of my life because it was from there that I got to know the truth about living.”
